House Portraits

I believe that buildings hold special memories, and that a commissioned portrait of a home, church, school or place of work is therefore of great personal value. It also makes a wonderful gift.

All my house portraits are painted in gouache. This is a water soluble paint which I use as if it were watercolour, thereby evoking a soft and mellow feel.

I work in my studio from photographs which may, or may not, have been taken by me. It is essential for me to have a clear understanding of what the client wants: the aspect of the building; what needs to be included (e.g.: a special shrub or pet) or excluded (e.g.: telephone wires).
